Actually, YACS is enabling podcasting for a while. To illustrate that point I have uploaded a short MP3 file to this page and, of course, it is available for direct download.
But also, if you visit the index of feeds (one of the modules listed at the Control Panel), you will see that YACS has a RSS feed for public files.
And, of course, this feed does feature the enclosure tag that is necessary to enable downloads.
Moreover, this has been made available into YACS not only for listeners. By applying same principles you can push any kind of files (including PDF or ZIP files) to any number of hosts.
To summarize, if you want to use YACS as a podcasting platform:
