How does "Slashdot style" decide what to highlight on the home page?
Need to understand how the Slashdot homepage style works because it's not doing what I expected
I'm using a slight customization on the skeleton skin, with the home page display set to Slashdot style. I have the "Display __ articles at the home page" setting at 7.
I posted 2 new articles and updated several more...I expected both of the new articles to show summaries at the top of the home page, but only one does.
What is the slashdot algorithm for deciding what to display up front, or how to a get that second article to show with the other new posting?
Site is at www.morison.biz/technotes. The new article that does show is http://morison.biz/technotes/articles/view.php/15. the article that doesn't show on home is http://morison.biz/technotes/articles/view.php/16.
Any help or pointers are appreciated.
Thanks,
Rod
PS: I just noticed that the new article didn't show up in the RSS feed for new articles.

The page published most recently comes first, etc. Note that this means that successive editions do not alter the order of articles at the home page. |

Lucrecius![]() from La Rochelle / Charente-Maritime / France 373 posts | Dear Rod, There's so many ways in the YacS Galaxy ! hummmmm, "hummmmm" that's the way I begin when there's a lot to answer in the Russian Puppets mode ... .As usual in the computer industry, there's many ways to get the "same" result, even if you arn't a geek (I'm not, despite my wife thinks I am). If I try to understand.. with reformulation : You want to get different skins in the same site, depending on the section. If so, you have to specify the wanted skin for that section. That can be done in the "Advanced Options" panel (I'm actually working in french 8) ... and its written "Options avancées") when modifying a section. Then you find "Options", with an input field... If you want to use the skin you built, e.g. skin_OF_MY_CHOICE, you enter "skin_OF_MY_CHOICE" in that field. Hoping that tip gave you some help... let us know. Yacsly Yours, Lucrecius |

Lucrecius: No, I'm saying there's a bug where a new article does not appear on the home page as it should.

Rod: Have you checked that both articles have been published, that their options does not prevent for display at the home page, and that their sections has been configured to send new articles at the home page ? If yes, that's a bug, and I would be interested to receive a copy (aka, a backup) of your database for troubleshooting... |

Bernard, you've got a heck of a lot of features in this thing, and I love you for it! I just learned about another one

Rod: Does this mean your bug has been solved? |

Bernard: I still have the issue at Parse links when publishing doesn't seem quite right, but yes, this particular issue was pilot error...RTFM, I suppose (is there a manual? never mind, probably wouldn't read it anyway.)
