Security Considerations
Having portal type security on a user basis
Is there any way to restrict parts of sites to specific users?
I would like to do this so that tailored content appears (especially collections = client specific reports etc) when a particular member logs in
Thanks

This means you can have section_a limited to user_a and section_b limited to user_b. If both sections are part of the site map displayed on the home page, YACS will properly manage the display, depending of who is connected. At the moment, no security scheme has been implemented for collections. One way to circumvent this would be to share files by attaching them to articles or sections, and benefit from mechanisms explained previously. |

Dan: I am working on this right now, and should be able to demonstrate something by next week. Then an intermediate build could be provided for your own tests before next release (6.2) in February. |

Bernard: That would be appreciated |

Dan: Well, you may see a preview of that feature at the demo site. Go there, log in as demo/demo to authenticate as an associate. Then create a new section, and restrict access to associates and editors. Then create a new member profile, display it on the screen, and click on Select sections managed by this user. Does this fulfill your need? |

Bernard: That's mighty close to what I was after, any chance of having it not visibile at all except for that user (and admins of course). Such as how we can hide information using the [hidden] or [restricted]codes on the menu? However, if this is as far as you want to go it will suit me very fine. thanks for all the trouble Dan |

Dan: Edit the target section and make it visible to associates only. Done! |

Lucrecius![]() from La Rochelle / Charente-Maritime / France 239 posts | Bernard : Upgrading root disposals As you already know, I'm hardly looking for this security feature.... like Dan. But the professionnal (educationnal) process goes on, and I didn't got time to wait. So, I had to settle groups of students on my course site. This is structured on a section-per-group basis. No one can see no one, as long as the article (or other contribution) is not published. I want to know the best way to upgrade this root-organization in the future one.... in the very next release. Friendly Regards, Lucrecius |

Lucrecius: Actually you have two different issues. One is to have closed workgroups with collaborating students (=one section per workgroup). The other one is to let one student share information with his teacher (=one section per student). In order to streamline the creation of individual sections (or personal spaces, or, simply, blogs), version 6.2 will let registered surfers create themselves one or more personal sections (with editors status) and define the visibility level of these sections (public, restricted, etc.) As a teacher, you will just have to ask your students to activate one private section to share protected material with you. This means that each student will be a managing editor of at least 2 sections: a private one, and another for the team/group they are part of. Dan, Lucrecius: I will push this update here by end of week to let you download a preview of all these before the actual release the week after. |
