YACS 6.1 has been released, and enhance on audio and video delivery

YACS now integrates the excellent library getid3 to provide more information on file content before and during streaming.

This means that singer names and song titles are displayed instead of cryptic file names.

Likely, VLC and Winamp nicely display the same information, plus song duration --no more complex web links.
166 files have been modified or created since the previous release.

The new release is available for immediate download, at [article=download]. If you are already running a YACS server we highly recommend you to smoothly upgrade your server. For further information check How to achieve incremental upgrades of a YACS server?.

Here is a list of new or updated features coming with this release:

-  The script used to browse collections now features information reported by getid3, where applicable. See collections/browse.php.

-  The library getid3 is also used to build live playlists nicely displayed by Winamp and VLC. See collections/play_audio.php.

-  A new script has been added to further feed mp3 information retrieved by getid3 to Winamp and VLC during streaming. See collections/fetch.php.

-  Collections have been graphically improved, since new files are flagged. Also, descriptive text used to configure collections may now have YACS codes.

-  The streaming of individual files attached to articles has been improved as well. See files/view.php and files/fetch.php.

-  Icons used to play or download files are now part of skins. You can change them if you wish.

-  The readme.txt used for installations has been largely expanded on file permissions and on other topics as well.

-  The setup script (setup.php) references readme.txt on error, to provide immediate support on common issues.

-  The test script (control/test.php) now displays user and group accounts related to file permissions.

-  Several run-once scripts have been provided to install the getid3 library, to upload new icons, etc. to further streamline the upgrade process.

-  E-mail addresses placed in articles and pages are now protected from spammers, through some Javascript scrambling. See skins/skin_skeleton.php.

-  Mailing script (articles/mail.php) makes more explicit that adresses are not stored by the server.

-  Two smileys have been added. Look at index.php.

-  HTTP headers have been extended on file download, to let Internet Explorer properly handle MS-Word and PDF versions of web pages.

-  Minor modifications have been made to solve some validation issues, for example on bookmarklet javascript snippets.

-  Tagged text is now properly processed to produce validating teasers in articles/article.php.

-  Names used for template caches have been streamlined. Also, YACS won't fail if it can't write these caches. See shared/global.php.

-  Other minor bugs have been fixed.
