Restricting places where content can be added
Hello

I'm wondering whether creation of content for a member can be clarified/restricted a little

For example, if you have a forum with sections, and only want a member to post with the sections.

At the moment, they can click on the forum link when creating a page, and the new page gets created outside the forum sections. I understand they can select a forum sections, but some members may not, or be confused.

In fact a better solution would be not to be able to post to the general forum link, but only to form sections/sub-sections if they exist?

Additionally, when you initially log on, it indicates 'create an article' on the profile page, though on the user box on the RHS, it indicates 'Create a page'. I assume that these do the same thing? So would it be sensible to have the same reference to avoid confusion, say 'create content' or something like that. Could this be easily changed?

thanks

Monkey: As per your suggestion I have changed the main forum of this server to avoid members post at the top level. Try by yourself.

The idea is to add the keyword 'locked' to the main section of the forum, like for any ordinary section where you want to prevent posts.

However, please note that this does not work with the release 5.10 of the software. This feature will be part of the release 5.11, due before month end.

Bernard: Hello, yes, this will be a very useful feature. Thanks.

Though I'm wondering if it's possible that from the 'create an article/page' link, the main Forum doesn't show up at all, that is, you can't post a new topic in this way.

So you would actually have to go the forum page, and post within it. Why? because it will force the member to observe the structure of the forum, and post in the appropriate sub-section etc. as they have to directly navigate the board. (It also 'separates' or distinguishes the Forum, from other type of content on the site. Though this probably goes against the design philosohpy of yacs?) Whereas, if they can just post directly from 'outside' the forum, they may not pay attention to where they should starting a new topic.

As you can guess, my users are very newbie, so I'm trying to simplify things and structure things more.

But I suspect, if you lock posting from create a page, the forum sections will be locked anyway then?

regards

Monkey : With YACS you can create a page at several places. When you browse some forum sub-section, click on the 'Add a topic' link and that's it.

The issue you are talking about is only for those that would select the 'Write a page' from the user menu. In this case, the surfer is asked to select the target section to anchor the future page. If the Forum section is locked, but has un-locked sub-sections, these will be listed as well. Therefore the surfer has a chance to list sub-sections of the forum, and to select where he will post.
