NickR
Hello.
It appears someone locked me out of the other chat page, so I can enable that chat in it :( on June 19 2008
NJ
hello on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Hello everyone on June 19 2008
NickR
Hi Steve. Hi Deb. on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Nick, are you the same Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran on June 19 2008
Justin
Hi Justin here from SITA, I use the YACS implementation that Bernard introduced in our company. on June 19 2008
NickR
LOL no... Im too young .... and handsome :D on June 19 2008
NJ
deb, u are not permitted to typesmiley faces
Justin..........is that the airline SITA on June 19 2008
NickR
Hi Justin. on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Ok, sorry about that. on June 19 2008
Justin
DOn't think we actually own an airline anywhere but we do work for them! on June 19 2008
NJ
Oh...........that is like the communications links like SITA text and stuff? on June 19 2008
NickR
I believe its www.sita.aero on June 19 2008
Justin
Yep on June 19 2008
NJ
I did some consulting for them in Montreal a couple or years ago on June 19 2008
NickR
OK then.
What topics do would everyone like to discuss tonight ? on June 19 2008
NJ
We made a new YACS site, www.write2imageplus.com and I would like to get rid of the powered by YACS on the front page side bar. on June 19 2008
Deb smith
When creating an image as the page icon in YACS, is there a way to position the image a certain way on the page? on June 19 2008
NickR
NJ first. on June 19 2008
Christian
hello everybody on June 19 2008
NJ
ladies first on June 19 2008
NickR
Hi Christian on June 19 2008
Deb smith
That is very nice NJ, thank you. on June 19 2008
NickR
Deb, I am just checking, I know you can do it with all images via css style, but do you want all or just one image ? on June 19 2008
NJ
Hi Christian on June 19 2008
Deb smith
just one, mR. RHODES on June 19 2008
NickR
I don't think there is a way to set just one icon :( on June 19 2008
Deb smith
I apologize for the caps on June 19 2008
NJ
that sucks on June 19 2008
NickR
I assume you would like it to be left or right ? on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Thank you for your answer...........it is unfortunate that it can't be done one picture at a time. Is it possible that this may be something we can do in the future?
Yes, you are correct. When I uploaded a picture to the site, on one page it is perfectly centered and the way I would like it to be, other times it is shifted to the left and cuts off part of the picture on June 19 2008
NickR
Are these images you have set as icons ? on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Yes, I am setting them as page icons with no thumbnail and not resizing the image
If it helps, the site I am referring to is www.write2imageplus.com, if you notice under "presentation" tab, the pictures are located in different areas of the page, not that drastic but drastic enough. I would like to center each on the page. on June 19 2008
NickR
Cheers Deb, much clearer now. on June 19 2008
Deb smith
I always find that sometimes showing what you are talking about helps. on June 19 2008
NickR
I do not think icons are intended to be shown as full size images. on June 19 2008
Deb smith
on June 19 2008
NickR
am guessing you want to display the images full size rather than thumbnail size ? on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Does that mean I will have to do a CSS feed
Yes, we would like the picture to be as big as possible, the bigger the better
I meant Cascade Style Sheet, I apologize. on June 19 2008
NickR
What I think would be better is when you insert an image on the page, you can do it with an image tag and currently there is options for left, centre and right, it might be good to be able to specify full or max size to force full size display instead of thumbnail. on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Instead of making it the page ICON, do you mean to place it in the "content" portion of the page and reference the image there i.e. ?
is that what you are referring to?
Cool...................thank you Nick on June 19 2008
NickR
Yes in the page content. on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Thank you Nick. on June 19 2008
NickR
Deb, it would be good if you can make a feature request at http://www.yetanothercommunitysystem.com/section-38-new-requirements on June 19 2008
Deb smith
Great.............will do. on June 19 2008
NickR
OK NJ, your next
Is that powered by yacs only showing on the homepage ? on June 19 2008
NJ
Thanks, On the www.write2imageplus.com.........on the first page there is a "powered by Yacs" on the side margin. I understan and agree that "powered by YACS" should be on the bottom of each page, but having 2 times on the fron page is too much.........how can we get rid of the "powered" by Yacs" on the sidebar?
Nick..........yes only on homepage on June 19 2008
NickR
Yes it can be removed, I am just looking where the code is, I think it can be done by modifying one of the skin files. on June 19 2008
NJ
thank you on June 19 2008
Christian
Normally it's in the template.php of your skin on June 19 2008
NickR
Thanks Christian. Your right, found it now.
NJ if you look at the template.php file for your website, its in there. on June 19 2008
NJ
ok thanks on June 19 2008
NickR
Actually.. it appears to be for the footer. I shall dig a little deeper... on June 19 2008
NJ
OK........thanks on June 19 2008
Christian
The "powered by yacs" is in /skins/page.php
looks at footer function
(sorry for my bad english) on June 19 2008
NJ
Ok, but what about the Side panel "powered by Yacs", I think that is what Nick is looking at
Christian.........your english is better than my french on June 19 2008
Christian
wich template are you using ? on June 19 2008
NJ
Digital on June 19 2008
NickR
NJ, I have found it, it was in template.php of the skin. Its about line 166 in Digital on June 19 2008
Christian
exactly ! on June 19 2008
NickR
Its the chunk of code under // link to yacs if we are at the front page
Just delete/comment it. on June 19 2008
NJ
I can take it from t on June 19 2008
NickR
I thought I was going mad, must of misread it first time round... on June 19 2008
NJ
Thank you both Nick and Christian!!! on June 19 2008
NickR
Right, better carry on. Justin, anything you would like to discuss ? on June 19 2008
Justin
Well my requirements are more on the user side and less on the development so not sure if this is the right place or not on June 19 2008
NickR
OK, ask away, I will let you know if we can answer... on June 19 2008
Justin
I don't develop YACS sites (yet) but use it extensively within our company. One thing that would help me a lot is the ability to do bulk uploads of files, be it pictures or attachments, is there an easy way to do this ? on June 19 2008
NickR
Simple answer is no. I have been pulling together some code for image galleries and there is no bulk upload for images/files that I notice.
ot be too hard to implement though. We have code to extract zip files or upload to the inbox folder on the site, could write something that attaches the files to one article. on June 19 2008
Justin
Sounds promising, a big part of my role is content management so lots of files and pages published on the site. Anything to help speed up the process would be great on June 19 2008
NickR
If you could make a feature request at http://www.yetanothercommunitysystem.com/section-38-new-requirements it would be great, I want the feature as well, so might end up writing it on June 19 2008
Christian
what is bulk upload ? on June 19 2008
Justin
Sure I will do that this evening or tomorrow. on June 19 2008
NickR
uploading MANY files at once. on June 19 2008
Justin
By bulk upload I mean, selecting multiple files in one go to upload to a page or section on June 19 2008
Christian
ok : we discuss of that at Chonas during testing on June 19 2008
Justin
Some tools allow you to drag and drop from the desktop or select multiple files when you click on 'upload a file' on June 19 2008
Christian
Bernard propose to upload a zip file with many photo on June 19 2008
NickR
Yes, that is an example of bulk uploading
http://www.uas.alaska.edu/faculty_support/UASOnlinev3/Library/Images/bulkupload.gif
Another option is as in that image, selecting multple images then clicking upload once to upload all at once. on June 19 2008
Justin
NickR, that is exactly what I am thinking of on June 19 2008
Christian
to develop this tools you must put the idea in new requirement and vote for it on June 19 2008
NJ
Is 8.6 going to hold any new suprises? on June 19 2008
Justin
I'd like to see features that encourage use, if a user has to zip files first, they probably won't get around to it. on June 19 2008
NickR
NJ, Yeah, its got a special button that nukes the internet ... (joke :D).
Justin, are you aware of the form that you get on ebay for uploading images if you sell an item ?
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/photo_tutorial3.html#standard_basic - it is very well designed, I would use that as a basis for the GUI for bulk upload. on June 19 2008
NJ
Really?? that would be good
I like YACS but am going to have to switch in the future, very difficult if you dont speak french on June 19 2008
NickR
NJ. Yes it can be fustrating !I really like YACS.
I am usually around when I am not crashing motorbikes and breaking arms :( on June 19 2008
NJ
But, u guys have done an amaizing job.......maybe a mobile YACS one day on June 19 2008
NickR
Not as fast paced response as Drupal or joomla. on June 19 2008
NJ
Be carefull on your motercycle....... on June 19 2008
NickR
Bernard has done a great job of creating a very usable CMS. It might not be the prettiest or feature rich, but it all works together really well.
http://www.ngrhodes.co.uk/images/article/94/DSC00001.jpg - all fixed now on June 19 2008
NJ
I agree, I do understand wanting to have a native (french) based discussions.....so I guess my lack of French is my problem> on June 19 2008
NickR
Mobile YACS, hmm, that would be very hard on a small screen, but maybe we could have some mobile tools (like you get desktop blogging tools). on June 19 2008
NickR
Could be worse, you might have to try and understand english speaking idiots :D
Justin, is there anything else you would like to chat about ? on June 19 2008
Justin
I thinks that is my main one for now. I have given Bernard a long list of requirements /wish list over the last few months
Just submitting my feature request now. on June 19 2008
NickR
Superb. on June 19 2008
NJ
Gonna go play baseball, see u later!! on June 19 2008
NickR
OK, let me say a few things about 8.6. on June 19 2008
NJ
Oh then I stay on June 19 2008
NickR
I wont be long...
8.6 is a heavily tested version of 8.5, there are no new features, just bug fixes and tweaks from 8.5 to 8.6. on June 19 2008
NJ
fair enough on June 19 2008
NickR
8.4 introduced more extensive use of tabs on administrator screens. on June 19 2008
NJ
My sincere thanks to Nick, Bernard and the rest of the YACS team for all the hard work and creativity embodied in YACS. on June 19 2008
NickR
http://www.yetanothercommunitysystem.com/article-4907-yacs-8-4-user-profiles-group-messages-tabs-overlays has full details of 8.4 on June 19 2008
NJ
Take care on June 19 2008
NickR
No problem, thanks for joining this chat. And tell Debs thanks as well on June 19 2008
Justin
Thanks, hope to join again! on June 19 2008
NickR
OK I shall call an end to this discussion.
I am thinking of having another chat in July. on June 19 2008
Christian
