Using navigation sections, boxes and sample boxes

Learning How to?
Bernard,

Other than the brief introductory paragraph that appears above the sections as you click on Navigation boxes and the extra boxes links in the special sections area there is not much documentation. I think as I try to get these features to work for me that perhaps once I understand better I can make this my next YACS documentation project.

Ok, some initial questions to get the ball rolling...

If the sample box is in the right hand menu, how can you work it so that when you publish a new content item that you want to appear in the same sample box replacing the original content (which would still exist in whichever category you assigned it to)and not create a new sample box?

If you wanted to call up a static sample box in middle of your blog/articles/front page content to show an advertisement for example... can this be done?

" box is in the right hand menu "

Actually, navigation boxes (that appear on all pages) and extra boxes (that appear only at the home page) are just plain ordinary articles, but anchored to special sections.

Therefore:

-  To add a box, browse the adequate section, and hit the link to create a new page. You will have to publish the page to make it actually appear at the right place.

-  To change the content of a box, go to the adequate section, and edit the related page.

-  To replace a box by another one while preserving the old one, you can create a new box, publish it, and un-publish the old one.

" show an advertisement "

Well, I suppose you will just have to paste the related HTML tags in the middle of your page.

This is reserved to associates, since members are not allowed to use HTML.

Bernard:

I suppose making every 3rd or 4th blog entry an advertisement might work also... although my attempts to include the codes provided to me by the affiliate programs never seem to format correctly no matter what YACS Codes I put around them.

I suppose eventually I'd like to integrate an ad server into the my site... something like http://phpadsnew.com/two/ (which is free and good for people like me who have no idea if I'll ever make a dime off my site!), and I believe it even supports geopositioning for a small fee.

I'm going to install it in a couple of weeks and see if I can make it useful to my YACS site.

Timster: phpadnews seems to be a nice system. To integrate it with YACS you could at least add referring code to your template, and have one rotating add per page.
