Template porting issue

timster -- on Mar. 7 2005
Yacs fan!
adding advanced options
As requested I have started a new thread to discuss my attempts to bring in a new template for using with YACS on my website.

If you visit my website at the momment you'll note that its using a modified listapart template (since it functions well) but I've attached a copy of the design that I'm still tweaking and hoping to use soon, since I've just started adding in content to my site (but won't start marketing it yet).

Known problems so far for me are the fact that I haven't been able to get the advanced option link to work when submitting content of any type and while all the other pages render properly, when clicking the comments link the right side bar/menu/etc shows up below the comments area instead of remaining on the right.

Attached is the template.php file that I'm working on and if anyone can spot the errors or missing info I would greatly appreciate it.

Files

An updated corrected version 51,374 bytes, 162 downloads
You will also have to update your server to the latest version of YACS to fix the bug on comments.

Bernard,

I'm sorry that I don't know what you mean by archive files?

Also I've returned the site to my new template skin for the moment so you could duplicate the issues if you wanted to see what I mean.

Timster: Please zip your template files and upload the archive files. For security reasons it is forbidden to upload PHP scripts, this would be used by hackers...

test.php?skin=tc2

Is this what you were expecting? If yes, then download the updated zip file, and explode files under the skins directory. Then configure your server to use the skin tc2.

Thank you for your feed-back, if any.

Bernard:

As always your magic touch is appreciated. The advanced options issue has been fixed.

However when clicking on the link to read the comments such as this link, still returns the rigth menu bar below the main conent area.

See example here: http://www.techcolosseum.com/articles/view.php?id=32&comments=1

Timster: Please consider the updated template attached above. Also, update your server against this one to fix the layout bug.

In attempting to automatically update my site I received this error (see image attached). My configuration is set to www.yetanothercommunitysystem.com, any thoughts?

So as an alternative I downloaded the entire zip file. Do I just upload it and over write the existing files? If so, I noticed in the New Yac-1/Skins/tc2 only has a few files and no CSS files, icons or image s folders.. is that the way is supposed to be? Sorry for being so thick

Timster: Maybe you have suffered from some network breakdown. Can you please give it another try?

I just tried it from my home computer a few times and it still doesn't seem to be working? Do you want me to temporarily make you an associate of the site so you can give it a whirl?

Timster: This is strange, since I have successfully updated a pair of sites today without any issue. Anyway the alternate solution is to download the latest zip file, to explode it at your hard drive, and to upload files to your server.

Then go to the Control Panel and launch the setup script from the menu below page title.

I'll give it a shot tonight from my home computer.

Just a thought, I'm in Taiwan, you don't have any particular ISPs or anything blocked do you?

Timster: I am pretty sure that the French ISP I am using does his best to connect to the whole Earth, including Taiwan...

Bernard:

I FTPd the new files up to my site and it worked fine... problem SOLVED

Timster P.S. however it changed my hack of how many blog entries on my front page back to the default 5... and I can't remember which file I need to look in to change that figure? I've checked, index.php, skins/tc2/template.php and skin.php, but I can't find it.

P.P.S... I found it... for anyone interested check skins/layout_home_articles_as_daily.php

Timster: Please consider the tonight release. The number of articles to display is now a parameter of the configuration panel for skins. If you leave the parameter empty, default values will be used by YACS, depending on selected layout, as it used to be in the past. But you are now free to override this value through web forms, without changing PHP scripts Your feed-back is welcome.
