Install... or rather re-install hic cough
added directory
Bernard,
After playing around with and evaluating YACs I've decided to use it for my site.
While evaluating it I had it installed in a directory called: http://wwww.mydomain.com/yacs/
So I decided to move it to my root directory. I deleted my yacs directory (and all the YACS files) and uploaded them again to my root directory. The install.php file came up but when I clicked the configuration tab it would go to the next page with the CONFIGURATION title showing and nothing else.
So I deleted all the files in the directory, deleted all the mysql tables with yacs prefix and left it overnight. Then I downloaded the latest build this morning (with the new poll changes... thanks again) and uploaded it all to my root directory.
This time the install process went fine except that when finished there was no template and an added directory /control/ in all the links off the final page. I was kind of sleepy this morning when I went through the configuration process and I think there was a form field that asked the path to YACS
and it had /control/ inside of it.
Is there some way to change this now? Or do I need to reinstall again?

| Timster 100 posts | DAMN... answering my own post again... I struggled to configure the site after installation because Firefox wouldn't leave me logged in when I manually typed in the configuration.php path. But when I switched over to IE I could manually type in the login path, then login, then manually type in the path to the configuration path, and then I was able to reconfigure the site to the correct root directory. Sorry to waste your time. |

Timster: does the polling system work as expected now? |
| Timster 100 posts |
Bernard: Thanks very much the polling system works very well and exactly as hoped... the only thing I noticed was that there is no vote control function... meaning that a single person can vote as many times as they want. I'm not sure if that's an issue for me, but it might be for some people. The poll_with_results function works perfectly for me, but doesn't get listed as one of the options below the appropriate form field so many others won't know about it unless they've been following this thread. Now that the basic functionality for my site exists I'm playing around with the design, content structure and a few other features. I'm sure I'll have more questions but this time I'll play around with it thoroughly so I don't keep answering my own questions ::) |

" a single person can vote as many times as they want " Yes, this is why this is a polling system, and not a voting system. Maybe in the future I could expand YACS on this topic, if someone can explain me carefully what a unique vote really is. Until that date, I would prefer to let YACS as simple as possible. " The poll_with_results function works perfectly for me, but doesn't get listed " True! I will probably have to extend the overlay interface just for that purpose. Also, you could maybe contribute with a new page in The Manual to explain how to display poll results at the home page? Thank you for your interest into YACS. See you... |
