Image Gallery and Image display

I am starting to use more and more images and finding YACS too basic, so I have some suggestions to improve images:

Use an article to hold images (with an overlay ?), the article becomes the gallery itself, but with specific layout options for display formatting of the gallery, eg layout options, titles, descriptions. Of course a content assistant option would be great

I think Bernard mentioned about wanting to use the light box, though pretty, is not my preference, what I prefer how www.smugmug.com does it. They show thumbnails at the side or bottom and the image above (and others), for example http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/1010498#46769648 or http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/1010498/1/46769648. Notice you can change styles, this should be reflected by the options set in the gallery and possibly allow users to change the option if required - some good opertuniy to use ajax here IMHO for some of the display options.

Ability to tag images would also be great (as would be commenting).

Finally a bulk upload option would be great, either allow import from a specific folder (ftp) or from an tgz or zip file.

I think I will need to pull in functionality of image/view.php into an article overlay, I hope I can do this. The related section layout should be straight forward.

I also need to write some code to automatically grab the first image in an article to display as a thumbnail (unless one is manually specified) in the layout overlay.

And of course I will make sure it works with lightbox

I am desparate to get a gallery up and running on a new YACS powered site, can't find any way to do it on my own

This is the first time I've used YACS and I used it because I thought it had an inbuilt gallery - I can't find it. I'm using 8.3beta31.1. I also downloaded the gallery mod but there is no installation instructions and I'm not yet familiar with the YACS file structure, where do I put it? Sorry for so many questions, but it's driving me crazy.

Sorry for delays, I was hoping to get the Gallery done for 8.4 release, but I broke my arm (crashed my motorbike) and had a few days vacation and simply not had the time. But, it will be done for the 8.5 release (end of May).
