My Daughter born today - Scarlett Rhodes

Sorry I was missing from Mondays meeting...

Scarlett was born today, 18th Decemember 2007 at 12:32 GMT, in Bradford, UK, weighing 8lb 8oz (3.9kg).

It was an 18 hour labour and 1 hour before the end we hit a complication as Scarlett's head was starting to show... she was back to back, so they had to be rushed into theatre so that Scarlett could be rotated with forceps and if that failled a cesarean before Scarlett was too far down. This was very worrying and upsetting for both of us as there was more risk othan a planned cesarean or normal birth, but we soon realised the forceps worked and Jen was still able to push (even though under a heavy epidural) which meant Scarlett ended up not being in much distress and only very minor marks on her head (can be quite bad if the baby has to be pulled out in terms of distress and marks on head can take a while to subside).

I have had to leave to Jen and Scarlett tonight so I can get some food (been living off breakfast bars for 2 days) and get a good nights sleep or else I will struggle tomorrow. They should be both back home tomorrow.

Its hard put in words how proud and how much I love my new little daughter and Jen. I am still amazed by it all and have all sorts of strong emotions of fear and protection for Jen and Scarlett throughout the whole event - but it is all way bigger than I exspected and my head is still spinning with it all - which I find quite strange as I'm a logical and rational person normally.

Sorry for having missed the event in real-time, and many thanks for the emotion shared with us. I enjoy so much these rare moments where technology is fading beyond important things...

And, definitely, you are very right to be proud of Scarlett, she is very cute.

I suppose Jen and Scarlett are now safe at home, and that your nights are rather busy? Take care
