What server is best for YACS?
Issue description
I am absolute newbie to all Linux and CRM (however I am experienced on Win's - I do technical support for global antivirus company).
I am trying to setup my own server where I want to host 20+ websites. I managed to install SMEserver and play with it for a while. I know virtualy nothing about command prompt
and I do not desire to be stuck with some issue later one just because nobody else use the same settings as me.
So, come in please and spill the beans... what settings worked for you and what you personaly prefer.. Will you recomend your settings (server+yacs) to somebody who just started? Is it easy to setup or at least are there easy to follow how-to's?
Everybody is welcomed to give his/her opinion. There is no wrong answers...

At the office we have built a LAMP server based on Linux Debian. I am not an expert, but it seems that the system is quite easy to handle ... for those not afraid by long lines of command. At home I have installed a MAMP server, under MAC OS X, and this is probably the easier setup I have seen so far, thanks to the integrated graphical interface on top of Unix. Lastly, why not install a WAMP server? Several packages are available for this purpose, and this is the kind of system used for the development of YACS. |

I personally prefer the Debian based Linux distrutions, your best bet is try out various ones from www.distrowatch.com, ubuntu is a popular Debian based distro that can be run from CD (Live-CD), which is a great way to try out... my suggestion would be to try Ubuntu out and then look at Debian as Ubuntu is geared up for the desktop and Debian is geared up for stability which better suits server enviroments. Hope this helps. Nick ----- Nick |

Actually in spite of my unability to get However I have another question, do not know if this is worth enough to create new page so I will post it here. Is it possible on one installation of YACS have multiple domains (with different layout, index pages, etc) or do I have to install YACS into each domain follder sepparately?

If there is a demand for this, we should take it into account. Would you post a new requirement for this feature? For the error message you have, it is probably related to some permission mismatch between the folder used by your server to store temporary files and the folder used by YACS for ultimate storage of the file. Look at http://www.php.net/is_uploaded_file for more information, since this is the function used by YACS to trigger the message you got. |

working on my first atempts (see my profile information) I prefer LAMP as I consider
. So going on WAMP is out of question for me. It is just that doing all from command line is for me unusual
) by installing and reinstalling and
on Google (my best friend) and at least I was able to get YACS working on my SMEserver
. Afterwards I discovered that I created few settings not so logically and that I changed premissions on lots of files untill I discovered which folders are which etc. So I decided to start from the scrach. Today I reinstalled whole server and now I will start with YACS again on SMEserver. At least I will be able to post guide How-To install YACS on SMEserver on both forums - here and on
