How to use RSS Bandit with YACS?

What is RSS Bandit?

Well, actually, Rss Bandit has a very rich and ever-expanding list of interesting features.

At least, it seems to fully support the Comment API, and it took me two days (well, and nights) to make it work correctly with YACS.

This piece of software has every features that are really important to me:

 Rss Bandit lets news readers access articles and comments (thanks to wfw:commentRss tags and a back-end feed for comments)

 Rss Bandit lets news readers post new comments as well (thanks to wfw:comment tags and a back-end implementation of the Comment API)

 Rss Bandit supports HTTP authentication to access protected feeds (i.e., to monitor YACS event logs)

 Rss Bandit may trigger w.bloggar to start a new blog entry

 Rss Bandit supports international character sets (including those french accents used at Entre Cousins and at other sites)

 Rss Bandit is a desktop application (actually, a laptop application I can bring with me everywhere)

 Rss Bandit is free

How to setup this stuff?

1. Download the software package from www.rssbandit.org/ow.asp?DownLoad and start the installation process.

2. Launch the Rss Bandit application

3. Click on the 'New Feed...' button. Type the URL of the selected RSS feed from your web site. For example, the main RSS feed at YetAnotherCommunitySystem is at http://www.yetanothercommunitysystem.com/yacs/feeds/rss_2.0.php. Click the 'Get title from feed' button and then on the OK button.

How to subscribe to new channels?

Place the mouse arrow on one of the XML or RSS pictograms and click the right mouse button, then choose "Copy Shortcut". Start Rss Bandit and choose the 'New Feed...' button. Then paste (click right mouse button) the url and press ok. Click the 'Get title from feed' button and then on the OK button.

At some hosts the contextual menu of Internet Explorer offers to 'Subscribe in default aggregator'. Obviously this can save you some time if Rss Bandit is your default aggregator...
