Privacy Policy/About this Site Editing. [7.11]

I have gone in and edited the files directly, but honestly, It's going to be a bit tedious going back after each upgrade and fixing them again.
The privacy and publication policies intrinsic to the code are pretty opposed to what most writers are willing to accept and thus i need to rewrite them a bit. It'd be easier if it was in the DB or editable from the control panel.

Actually, the most straightforward way to go for a PHP developer is probably to duplicate about.php and privacy.php, with different names, then you will have to use these new names in your template.

If you are not a PHP developer, I perfectly understand you would like to get some configuration panel instead... To move forward on this idea, maybe the right way to go would be to create a new configuration panel for all root pages, including the home page, and about and privacy. Part of it would be taken from the existing configuration panel for the rendering engine.

Would you like to get such a thing? If yes, rate this page as high as you can, and hopefully a kind developer would look at this new requirement...

Thanks for the feed-back.

Bernard : To implement a simply idea, is it more simple to move About, Policy and Privcy scripts into each original skin (who will be derivated) ? Maybe not for the homepage because we still can make a template_home for this.

Then we can keep all actual settings and do what everybody wants in his own skin. With this solution, these files will not be removed with the next upgrades.

A simple exisiting test of these files would show (or not) the links in the footer panel.

Another idea is to let people make a simple html page in their skin folder who could be rendered in the skin. Each one could make simple links in his menu or anywhere else.

Of course, Bernard gave the best solution but but this way, there is no limit of creativy.

What do you think about these ideas ?

I was thinking we could have special articles (like special sections), so they could be managed like regular articles.

Maybe utilise overlays to provide the addition custom information ?

NickR : That's the simpliest idea ! I aggree with you !

5- Bernard on June 27 2007

NickR: That's a great idea, indeed. We could create a section to host basic named pages, such as 'about', 'privacy', but also 'menu' (instead of having a full section for one menu). Content for these pages would be created by YACS, of course, but webmasters could modify them with ease afterwards. And these would not be impacted by software upgrades. Everybody agrees?

Il n'y a pas de problèmes, que des solutions.

Global pages are available in YACS, allowing for free editing of the 'about' page and of the 'privacy' page.
