Link spam? [Solved]

avatarMorison, Rodney -- on June 7 2007
In my Links section (from control panels) I'm seeing a bunch of links that shouldn't be there. What's going on.
In the process of upgrading to v7 yacs I noticed some spammy links in the links section of my control panel. Their obvious spam junk: mortgage sites, sex & dating stuff. Obviously, not from any content I've posted to the site (I'm the only one who does post at this time.)

Where can these links be coming from? Why can't I find them in any articles? How can I backtrack them from the Links section? Does yacs have a hole?

We had problems with hackers in the past and we made security patches for this.

Maybe your site was hacked in old versions. The best way to know if this is a hole for the actuel version is to install it from scratch.

Make a full backup of your website and database. Install the last version from scratch and use the current database. Put your parameters, files, images, collections and so on in this new installation by FTP.

Go to the control panel and remove these junk links then watch the events in the next days.

Ok, good to know it's a known & fixed hole. The system affected is a 2 year old yacs release, I'm upgrading to 7.4, which I'm testing now and will switch to later. I'll clean those links up and keep an eye out.

Does yacs have an announce list? (If not, how about it?) It would be nice to get email on major releases and important security fixes.

The feed mentioned by GnapZ is related to on-going development efforts. Also, a section has been dedicated to every new releases, and there is a related RSS feed.
