Update issue

Incremental Upgrade after installing YACS 7.4alpha16 causes going back to previous version.
Problem has been recorded

Issue description

This problem seems to be related to "Problems with FCKEditor". To solve my problem with FCKEditor I installed Yacs 7.4alpha16. Everything works great.

After that I did a update via the control panel/upgrade/incremental upgrades.

Now the problems with FCKEditor appear again. It seems that the upgrade causes new files being overwritten with older files.

Is this a bug?

I tried a few times the incremental upgrade but it failed each time for me.

Be carreful: If you are using the 7.4alpha16, the upgrade will use the Yetanother version that is the 7.3.1. Don't forget that the 7.4 is still an alpha version so do not try to upgrade until the 7.4beta or the release is published.

I am happy to know that the incremental upgrade is sitll working.

GnapZ:

I understand that 7.4 is alpha. But what I don't understand is that an upgrade function overwrite newer files with older ones. I had expect that it would do nothing or had asked what to do.

Actually this is a feature, not a bug! Yes, I know, it may sound like a statement from Micro$oft, but this is true.

Versions made available to synchronization are either stable versions, or, in some cases, beta versions.

The synchronization process does not take care of dates. Its only purpose is to ensure that your server is an exact copy of the reference one.

This means that if you install an alpha version, and would like to go back to previous version, you just have to synchronize, and this is what you did...

Maybe it would help that the synchronization process could generate a warning and ask for confirmation if it detects that the current server has a higher version number than the one provided by the reference server.

If you think that this would be a nive feature, please post a new requirement to the suggestion box, and let the community discuss this.

Bernard: Thanks, I now understand the update process.

I think it wil be a nice feature to get a warning because the update process did something else than I expected. I think "Update" is mostly interpreted as "find newer files".

I will post a new requirement.

Rien: thank you for the new requirement. Now developers have to take over...
