Export By User
noticeably missing feature
Many of my users want to export, as personal backups, their part of the site. Particularly the PErsonal Spaces. For each user to be able to dump all of their posts (and possibly comments on their posts) would be an enormously cool thing.

AnsteyER![]() 301 posts | I'd say.. XML and maybe a more readable flat text. though, XML would probably do just fine, I think, personally. |

AnsteyER: To confirm i have captured the requirement: it does not matter if the resulting file can only be used in YACS, right? You are not expecting to use the export in something else, right? |
AnsteyER![]() 301 posts | Right. Really, what I've noticed my users wanting is just the ability to dump everything they've posted. I'm using YACS as a writing site. Basically personal spaces are individual libraries... users really want to be able to just save their stuff onto their PC as a backup. Yacs already has a nifty backup feature for me as an admin, but..the members have no way to dump their articles etc. .. How that might be best or most easily done, I'm not sure.. for example.. being able to dump a section, or a category... might be nice..but honestly, i'm more focused purely on a backup feature for members. |

AnsteyER: The restoration function can be tricky, if you let inidividuals write back some database content unattended... Would you agree to have this function still fully controlled by associates? |

OH YES. DEFINITELY!!! This idea is really purely just allowing members to do a dump for their own personal use. The idea of restoring from that would only ever be by an associate in my opinion. AnsteyER: ok, now we have a clear requirement, thank you |
