Email setup Problem

avatarAnstey Stephan -- on Jan. 24 2007
Hey there. I really tried to find something about this specific issue, but i didnt' see anything. Maybe because it's so obvious.
I have a very standard verio server, with a very standard php.ini file. I've never had to add in smtp settings or pop settings before on any CMS i've set up. (Joomla, Drupal and others)

I have put in what i know to be working smtp settings, and get an error. THOUGH, it's not writing anything to debug.txt

It's the same error i get when i have no settings at all, which, my understanding suggests that it's working from the ini file and using /usr/bin/sendmail .

Am I missing something really obvious here?

I think i've raed the readme and searched the site for more info, including the email set up page. But so far, to no avail.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Outbound mail is only activated if the radio button 'Use below parameters to handle electronic mail messages' has been checked. Is this ok?

Nope. That's not it. I clicked that button.

I also tried no settings to use PHP.ini... thinking that mine sends mail for all other apps. but that didn't do it either.

I know the settings are at least good enough to connect to a server. (i tested every one of them multiple times. password checks, server name checks, user name..

I'm stymied.

Thanks for any thing you can think of!

Fondly, stephan

I think i figured it out..basically, it was old software. php 4x and mysql 3x -- lots of badness there. I upgraded server and without doing anything else, the email works. *of course, now i have other errors...but the email works*

AnsteyER: Do you remember the old versions? This could help other users in similar situations. Thanks for the feed-back anyway.
