Uploaded images set to owner only

Ely Mark -- on May 18 2006

Hi,

I have a new install of YACS, and have a small problem that I am sure someone will know how to correct/what I did wrong.

Everything looks nice and is, I think, working but when I post a photo, the file rights are wrong.

The file rights on the thumbnail are correct so anyone can see the image, but the full size image file rights are defaulting to owner only, meaning anyone wanting to view that image is denied access.

I can correct the rights by hand to make it work, but want to correct the problem so I can test the systems other features.

yacs 6.4
php 4.3.10
sql 4.1.9-standard

Mark

PS. I feature I would love to have (know about if it can already do it) is for different home pages for sub domains or ailas domains.

eg. localdetails.eu - master home page
baldock.localdetails.eu - Section Baldock page

Hi SG7,
First of all it is probably not a bug (because I never heard yet of such a problem)... Then it could be (with no certainty) a question of the parameters you choose in the "advanced options"concerning the image.
Could you send us details concerning all the parameters you have chosen about the image (a sceenshot)?
Otherwise, it could be a corruption of some files which happened during the downloading. In that case, you could replace by the way the corrupted files through an incremental upgrade (of the same version), which is a very easy process to achieve.

!!! How to achieve incremental upgrades of a YACS server?

Then let us know the result, please.
P.S./ When I have a look at your site I can see no image at all, even thumbnail.

Thanks for the reply.

I did not think it was a bug, as the demo on this site works fine, so it's more likely to be a issue with my server, the install or the config.

Basically everything is on defaults the only details I entered was a admin user and sql database details.

I have posted an example image in to yacs on my test site.
(chmod rights are correct on icon, but set to owner only on full size)

For the paramaters, I did not change them, so I selected a file from my desktop, added test text to the display fields. The advanced options where set to:

Link
You can make this image point to any web page if you wish
Image processing Automatically resize the image if necessary
Insert a thumbnail Instead of the embedded image, but only for large files (>20 kbytes)
Always use the thumbnail. Users will click on it to see the full image.
Never. Response times for surfers using modem links may be degraded on big images.

SG7 : well, let us try in "Insert a thumbnail" this parameter : "Never. Response times for surfers using modem links may be degraded on big images." to see if the plain image appears as we ask it to.

Nevertheless, I persist to imagine that some file has been corrupted in transport. (and it doesn't cost any energy to test it through an incremental upgrade).

Fernand:

Nothing on the site, and I have changed the passwords to demo. So feel free to login and try doing an image yourself, just to check it's not me or my images.

username: sg7
password: demo

One new image as you said.

As it is saving both the full size and thumbnail I guess it is not a access problem for YACS to save, and as the thumbnail has the correct access rights and works, I am not sure why the fullsize image is given different access rights.

The results of the update.

SG7 : I have made my test on your site with no more success.
Up to this point I regret to be unable to help you (as I act rather as YACS business leader).
Like you I think that this is a tiny problem, and even not a problem for Bernard the technical leader (and founder) of YACS.
I hope that he will fortunately be back in the next few hours. (Usualy he has a look every day on this forum but he could be travelling right now).
Best regards

Fernand:

Thank you for your help.

I have opened up the ftp as well

user mark_ely@localdetails.eu
password demo

+ web space control panel using the above can be found at

localdetails.eu/admin

Mark

ps. Ensim server web space automatically adds a redirect on :

domain/admin
domain/user

end result is if you install yacs in the root of the domain, you can't get to some of the pages. Might be a useful tip for furture users if they hosts use Ensim

Strange. thinking Based on your input chmod has been added to every uploaded image and file, just to be sure... This will be made available on next release, due end of this month, so please keep posted.

Thank you for your interest in YACS.

Also, for sub-domains, there are some ideas in the air, and these may be implemented in the near future...

Look foward to ir.

Let me know if you still want ftp/admin access to my test site. If not I will change the passwords.

Mark.

ps. Notice that links marked to opening in new windows don't always do that. If you use the icon or the preview list for sub sections.

SG7: I would prefer to have some tests based on the new version...
